As part of this years Heritage Week events, the Tara Skryne Preservation Group would like to invite you along for a walk in the woods on Sunday 19th Aug, 2012 meeting at the car park on the Hill of Tara 2pm and proceeding to Rath Lugh.
Rath Lugh was Tara’s ancient outer defence fort and is now home to Coillte owned forestry. Here we will take a tour of the Rath Lugh woods, visit a Holy Well and stop at other points of interest along the way to discuss its history and mythology. Bards In The Woods days are happening all over Ireland on various Sundays throughout the year where people share woodland and wildlife appreciation with poetry songs and stories. It is intended to encourage and increase more use and appreciation of our Irish woodlands and raise awareness of their importance. Anyone can host a Bards in The Woods event so feel free to host one in a woodland near you, with permission from the owner of course. See Bards in the Woods on Facebook for more details.
TSPG would also like to invite you to attend an Open Meeting on Sunday 2nd Sept, 2012 2pm at the Hill of Tara where new members will be invited to join. TSPG are dedicated to the conservation and protection of the Tara Skryne landscape. We have experts in archaeology, astronomy and various environmental issues but it is not necessary for you to be an expert to join TSPG. We welcome all who have a genuine interest in our ideals and look forward to meeting you then. Enquiries can be made through our website.
The Tara Skryne Valley is a beautiful area to visit and it holds a special place as the cultural centre of Irish heritage and history.
If you are out and about in the valley and you see something that concerns you or you are curious about e.g. surveying, diggers etc, please let us know so we can investigate.
It may be something that we're already aware of but on the other hand, it may not, so the sooner we're advised of any activities the better.
We appreciate your support. Thank you!
